Why the Name “Sonorus”?

Names matter.

A product name is more than a label. It sets an expectation. It gives people a feeling before they ever try the product. It hints at what the product is here to do — not just technically, but emotionally.

When we began developing our connected riding bike helmet, we knew the name had to carry more than a feature.

It could not simply say “intercom.”It could not simply say “audio.”It could not simply say “smart.”

We wanted a name that captured the feeling we were designing for:

the feeling of your voice carrying clearly, naturally, and confidently with the people you ride with.

That is why we chose Sonorus.

A Word About Sound

Sonorus comes from the idea of something sonorous — rich, clear, resonant, and full of sound.

That meaning felt right from the beginning.

Sonorus is a helmet built around connection. It is designed to help riders speak naturally, stay in sync, and remain part of the same shared ride even when distance, wind, traffic, or motion would normally get in the way.

But “sonorous” is not just about being loud.

In fact, that is exactly what we wanted to avoid.

Riding should not require shouting. Communication should not feel forced. Technology should not make the ride feel mechanical or distracting.

The goal is not louder riding.

The goal is clearer riding.

Clearer voices. Clearer awareness. Clearer connection.

A Small Cultural Wink

Some people may also recognize “Sonorus” as a spell from Harry Potter — a spell that amplifies the speaker’s voice and helps it carry farther.

We liked that association, but we use it only as a light wink, not the foundation of the product story.

For us, the deeper meaning is not about magic in a fictional sense. It is about a very real feeling that riders understand immediately:

You are moving. The wind is loud. The group is spread out. You want to say something simple — “turn here,” “slow down,” “I’m behind you,” “look at that” — and you want your voice to reach the people you are riding with.

That is the spirit of Sonorus.

Helping your voice carry naturally, without breaking the flow of the ride.

Not Loud. Heard.

There is an important difference between being loud and being heard.

Being loud can feel intrusive. It can compete with the world around you. It can pull you out of the moment.

Being heard is different.

Being heard means your message gets through. It means the group stays connected. It means communication becomes easier, lighter, and more natural.

That is the experience we wanted Sonorus to create.

A rider should not have to choose between staying connected and staying present. You should not have to block out your surroundings just to hear your group. You should not have to stop the ride just to communicate.

Sonorus is designed around that balance.

Connection without isolation. Communication without shouting. Technology without losing the ride.

Why This Matters for Riding

Riding is full of small signals.

A glance. A hand motion. A callout. A change in pace. A warning. A quick laugh. A shared reaction to the road ahead.

These signals are part of what makes riding together feel alive.

But many of them get lost when riders are separated by distance, wind, speed, or traffic.

Sonorus is our attempt to protect those moments.

Not by turning the ride into a conference call. Not by adding a screen. Not by making the rider more distracted.

But by making communication feel more like it should have felt all along:

natural, open, and easy.

A Lumos Name

Lumos itself has always carried a sense of light.

Light is practical: it helps you be seen.Light is emotional: it gives confidence.Light is symbolic: it turns uncertainty into clarity.

Sonorus extends that idea from visibility into voice.

If Lumos is about bringing light to the ride, Sonorus is about bringing voice to the ride.

Both are about helping riders move with more confidence.

Both are about making the invisible parts of riding — presence, intention, awareness, connection — easier for others to perceive.

That is why Sonorus feels like a natural evolution for Lumos.

The Feeling We Wanted

When someone hears the name Sonorus, we want it to suggest something human:

A voice that carries. A group that stays together. A ride that flows. A rider who is heard without having to shout.

The name is not about making noise.

It is about connection.

And in the context of riding, connection can change everything.

Closing

We chose the name Sonorus because it captures what we want riders to feel: heard, connected, and free to keep moving together.
